WHAT IS A THERAPY PROGRAM LIKE?

Your Questions Answered

These are examples of what you might expect during your time with us!  Because our programs are completely customized, frequencies may vary based on findings.

I AM BRINGING MY INFANT IN TO SEE YOU, WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

This will depend on what you are bringing them in for.  There are options of lactation consulting and infant oral motor appointments.  Prior to your visit with us, we will determine what will best fit you.  While in our office, we will gather a detailed history and give you recommendations based on our findings.  This may include additional referrals.  You can expect to see us at a frequency of every 1-3 weeks depending on the situation until you have "graduated" from our care.

I AM BRINING MY 1-2.5 YEAR OLD TO SEE YOU, WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

We will begin with a detailed history to find what will best fit your little one's needs.  We will give recommendations based on our findings and explain what we are looking for.  This appointment might also include referrals to other providers in order to help us achieve optimal outcomes!  You can expect to see us anywhere from every 3-8 weeks depending on what we find in our inital appointment.

I AM BRINGING MY CHILD IN TO SEE YOU WHO IS BETWEEN THE AGES OF 3 AND 18, WHAT CAN I EXPECT.

At this age, we expect to complete a comprehensive MyoFunctional therapy program.  This will be a complete neruo-muscular re-education in order to achieve optimal function with breathing, swallowing, chewing and resting postures.  A comprehensive therapy program consists of three active phases and then a graduation "maintenance phase".  The three phases are 1. Intensive, 2. Habituation ad 3. Naturalization.   We begin with a detailed history which WILL more than likely include multiple referrals to help us achieve our goals.  After our initial intake, we will determine if MyoFunctional Therapy is right for your child and have a plan of action.  Our next steps are to schedule the intensive phase of therapy.  This is typically the first 8 sessions of therapy which should be done weekly.  We will then change frequency of appointments depending on our findings.  We will go to every 2 weeks, then every 3 weeks, finally ending with every 4 weeks until we know we have completley retrained everything in the head and neck region.  You will then enter a maintenance phase where we do check ins at 3 months, 6 months and then yearly to make sure there is nothing that we need to re-touch on.

I AM AN ADULT, WHAT CAN I EXPECT WITH MYOFUNCTIONAL THERAPY?

In adulthood we will do a comprehensive MyoFunctional Therapy program.  A comprehensive therapy program consists of three active phases and then a graduation "maintenance phase".  The three phases are 1. Intensive, 2. Habituation and 3. Naturalization. You can expect to start with a very detailed intake examination and consultation.  We will do a detailed history which will go back to birth.  We will give all necessary recommendations in order to achieve optimal results and we will share our findings with you. The next step after our consultation is to schedule for our intensive phase of therapy.  This will be about 8 sessions where we will meet weekly.  After the intensive phase we will switch frequency to every 2 weeks for a few sessions, then every 3 weeks for a few sessions and lastly every 4 weeks for a few sessions.  Once we have determined that all functional concerns have been address you will move into a graduation phase where we do visits at the 3 month mark, 6 month mark and yearly mark.  If everything checks out at each of those visits, we will meet yearly to make sure there is nothing else we need to work on.
